I have heard so many retorts, excuses and ‘yes buts’ to a question I pose to friends, clients and family. The question is this –
Who is to blame for whatever happens to us and in our lives?
Being accountable can only be truly possible when there is a shift in our perspective and mindset. I have heard retorts like ‘yes but it’s easier said than done!’ Or ‘But you don’t know what it’s been like?!’
And excuses like: ‘But I had no money!’ Or ‘She did this and said that!’ Or ‘Yes, but the government made this ruling…’
BLAH BLAH BLAH!
No matter what the reason – the truth of the matter is that I was and am party to WHATEVER has shown up in my life. Being accountable for anything and everything that shows up in our lives is a hard pill to swallow. Facing this truth is not pretty and I see my clients fight tooth and nail to NOT ‘see’ where they need to do this. But the reality is that, once you take responsibility for your life and EVERYTHING that is present – it empowers you to do something about it or …. NOT. Once we can see that we have choices, however difficult they may be. We can choose to choose rather than staying stuck in the emotion of feeling trapped.
So, I booked a session with a therapist who had experience with addictions and afflictions. I came clean with those I felt I needed to. And it was HARD! Throw on top of this – menopausal symptoms including hemorrhaging, depression, no energy, brain fog, scattered thoughts, NO memory and last, but not least – an all-consuming RAGE! (more about this in future posts). In fact, I can probably write an entire book on this last one!
Que vulnerability. The no.1 fear to Daring Greatly! Thank you, Brené Brown, for trending this essential component for the pathway to living consciously, authentically and unapologetically. Something I struggled and continue to struggle with. BUT not so much anymore.
Yoo-hoo! TEENY TINY PROGRESS! And on my voyage continues….
